I’ve found that listening to music can serve as great inspiration for writing. I’ve also found that simply recalling music by memory (without actually listening to music) can do the same thing. And, to that end, last week, for the first time, I used the following prompt in a writing workshop for adults and it produced extremely inspired writing:
Take a few minutes to imagine (or remember) a room where music is playing. Once you can see your room, then tell everything about it you can imagine (or remember). Describe the music. Is anyone there listening? If so, who’s there? Why are they there? What’s happening in the room? What’s happened in that room in the past? What’s going to happen in that room in the future? Or just write about anything that music playing in a room triggers in your imagination or memory.
