Candy Colors

By Jahnia T. Mark, Age 7

Everybody in my
family is a different
color. I am a light
coffee brown. My mother is a light
brown like me. My father is a Hershey dark
chocolate. My grandmother is a very
very light brown and she smells like
caramel. My Aunt Sarah is really
really light like white chocolate. She
fixes everybody’s glasses when they’re
broken. But she doesn’t let me get new
ones.

“Candy Colors” was contributed  in 2006 by Jahinia T. Mark when she was seven years old and appears in If These Streets Could Talk: Fiction & Poetry from the NY Writers CoalitionYou’ll find this and other writing from our youth program in the NYWC Bookstore.
