Celebrate Your Own Holiday

I’m sure you’re in the midst of preparations, but just in case it slipped your mind, September is the “Great American Low-Cholesterol, Low-fat Pizza Bake Month.” As a holiday, it’s right up there with Christmas and Thanksgiving in terms of the importance of eating. Unlike Christmas and Thanksgiving, which emphasize sharing large amounts of delicious food, the Great American Low-Cholesterol, Low-fat Pizza Bake Month takes one of America’s favorite and most delicious foods, pizza, and completely ruins it. I mean, seriously, what’s a pizza without fat and cholesterol? I’ll tell you: a pizza with no soul, and more importantly no flavor.

The Great American Pizza Bake Month is just one of many ridiculous and obscure holidays out there. If you’re curious, take a look at Brownielocks.com and peruse their extensive lists of zany celebrations and remembrances. Speaking of celebrations, don’t miss the NYWC’s 8th Annual Write-A-Thon, which is coming up on September 21st. As a day devoted entirely to writing, it’s sure to bring out some pretty crazy ideas as well. Do yourself a favor and register now!

For today, though, create your own ridiculous holiday. What does the holiday honor or remember, and how do people celebrate it?
