NYWC Day + Brooklyn Lit Crawl: Writing & Reading ’round NYC this weekend!

Boy do we have a weekend planned for you!

Tomorrow, Friday, May 18th is NYWC Day! NYWC will host a day of FREE creative writing workshops in some really fun and inspiring spots in all five boroughs of this big city. Have you always wanted to write at the Coney Island Sideshow, or in Strawberry Fields in Central Park?  Would you like to be part of a NYC Subway Flash Mob workshop on the #7 train?  Of course you would! We’ve got these and other guerilla-styled writing workshops for you to check out. Click here to view a complete schedule and rsvp for a workshop.

There’s more! The  festivities will continue on Saturday as NYWC joins up with our friends at the Litquake Foundation for the debut of Lit Crawl Brooklyn – a bar crawl, with literature! Lit Crawl Brooklyn will feature readings, salons, and even an old-timey radio show at some of Brooklyn’s coolest cultural hang-outs and finest watering holes. The NYWC event will take place at the Micro Museum on Smith Street from 7 to 7:45 PM, and the first 7 participants from Friday’s NYWC Day workshops who show up Saturday will be invited to read. That’s right, you can read to a group of tipsy literary types what you just penned the night before on the Staten Island Ferry! And you’ll want to crawl if you must to as many Lit Crawl events as you can, because seriously awesome literary organizations, including PEN, Brooklyn College’s MFA Program, Brooklyn Writers Space, and our very good pals at Akashic Books are doing some really great readings and performances.

See you around, NYC!
