Participate in National Volunteer Week, Join NYWC’s Volunteer Corps!

National Volunteer Week is coming to a close, but we couldn’t let it pass without giving a shout-out to NYWC’s  Volunteer Corps program. Our creative writing workshops are the crux of the work we do here and our over forty volunteers have allowed us to conduct over 1,000 workshops in 2012 alone. The Volunteer Corps, our cohort of volunteers who do not lead workshops, allow us to expand our reach and strengthen our programs in 2013 and beyond.

Our growing roster of volunteers do everything from developing our social media and outreach, to helping out at our events and readings. Their support has helped us with two recent events–our Write Makes Might reading marathon and our Poem In Your Pocket Day event. There are plenty more events to work with us at, namely, our annual Fort Greene Park Summer Literary Festival which is just around the corner! We’re constantly looking for people to help capture our events, support ongoing projects, and spread the word about our services.

If you’re interested in getting involved with NYWC’s many projects and events,  just fill out our application form with your relevant experience and interests. Members of NYWC’s Volunteer Corps have the opportunity to work alongside like-minded people who are committed to writing and social justice. So, if you’ve been looking for a place to utilize your passion for creative writing or perhaps harness a great skill (photography? graphic design? anything!) towards helping your fellow New Yorkers have their voices heard, why not close National Volunteer Week with a bang and join our community of writers and activists?
